Allahabad

I joined the University of Allahabad as a graduate student in 1958 and left the university in 1964 after getting my B.A.(1960), M.A.(1962) and D.Phil (1964) degrees. I had the privilege of studying Sanskrit with Professor Babu Ram Saxena (Linguistics) Professor Kshetresh Chandra Chattopadhyay (Vedic Literature) Professor Umesh Mishra (Indian Philosophy), Professor Adya Prasad Mishra and Professor Chandika Prasad Shukla (Sanskrit Literature ), Hindi with Professor Dhirendra Varma, Professor Uday Narayan Tiwari , Professor Hardeo Bahari (Linguistics), Professor Mata Prasad Gupta, Professor Umashankar Shukla , Professor Paras Nath Tiwari (Textual Criticism), Professor Ram Kumar Verma, Professor Dharm Vir Bharti, Professor Jagdish Gupta and Ram Swarup Chaturved (Hindi Literature) and English which was a compulsory subject in B.A. with renowned poet Raghupati Sahay Firaq.

I worked on the subject Bhartendu Yugin Hndi Kavya Men Loktatva for my D.Phil degree under the guidance of Padmabhushan Dr. Ram Kumar Varma, the then Head of the Hindi Department of Allahabad University. The study at University of Allahabad gave me the opportunity to meet and interact with the leading most Hindi litterateur such as Mahadevi Varma, Sumitranandan Pant, Suryakant Tripathi Nirala, Upendra Nath Ashka, Lakshmi Kant Varma. During my stint at Allahabad I did my Sahitya Ratna of Hindi at the Sahitya Sammelan, Prayag. I also studied German language for two years at the University of Allahabad and spent two years in learning Tamil language and received the Proficiency Certificate of the Education Department of UP Government.
