World Hindi Day was jointly organized by the India in Nepal (Embassy of India Kathmandu) and Tribhuvan University at the Embassy of India on 10.01.2023. India’s well-known and widely published linguist and Indologist Dr @Vimleshkanti Verma, was a special guest. Dr Vimlesh Kanti Verma elaborated on “What is Hindi?”. Well known for his inclusive stand on Hindi as a means of communication, Dr Verma has tirelessly worked to advance different forms of Hindi from Fiji, Surinam, Mauritius, Trinidad & Tobago, South Africa through his many books and articles on Hindi in the diaspora. Dr Vimleshkanti Verma gifted the library of India in Nepal (Embassy of India Kathmandu) a copy of his best-selling Hindi-English Thematic Dictionary. When asked after the official function- “What did you enjoy the most today?” his answer was ” Interacting with young minds and Hindi educators of Nepal.” Not a surprising answer from an educationist who has taught at Delhi University, University of Toronto, University of Sofia and the University of the South Pacific over the last fifty years.
Embassy of India Deputy Head Mr Prasanna Srivastava and Dr. Sanjita Verma, President, Hindi Department, Tribhuvan University, represented the Embassy and University, respectively. Mr. Mangal Prasad Gupta, MP & President of Hindi Manch Nepal was Chief Guest. In his address, Mr Gupta underlined the importance of Hindi globally.
